Truck Stop Horror Story

I had just taken a break after driving non-stop. I had driven continuously for almost 5 hours and I was feeling sleepy. My eyes were shut, and I was desperately in search of a place to park and rest for a while. Luckily, I found a truck stop and parked my truck there. Now, since this was a usual route for me, I very well knew that this truck stop was expected to be here. However, I had never used it before. It always gave me the chills. Maybe it had to do with the fact, that very few vehicles were ever seen parked over there.
Also, being a seasoned trucker, I have had my fair share of creepy experiences around these truck stops. So until now, I had tried my best to avoid this specific truck stop. However, this time around, it was imperative for me to rest. Else I could’ve dozed off into sleep, while still behind the wheel. So I drove off the highway and entered the opening to the space.

I noticed that only a few trucks were parked. Their lights were out. So I presumed they were gone somewhere. I parked it beside a long red truck, but with an empty spot between us. I mean I was worried about other creepy truckers. But I couldn’t risk being isolated from others, in case I needed any help. So I shut the engine, pulled my seat, and stretched my legs. Unlike my usual habit, I decided to not go outside the truck. This was for obvious reasons. I didn’t wish to take any risks. Also, I ensured that my doors were all locked, and the window was only a little open. So that I could breathe.

Now I didn’t even realize when I fell fast asleep. Maybe it was because I was really tired. Suddenly, I was woken up by a loud thud. I panicked because at first, I didn’t even realize where I was. After a few seconds, I got back to my senses and took charge of the situation. I looked around and saw no one in front, or on the sides. My doors and windows were unharmed. I was overreacting, but again, I was just trying to be as safe as possible. Obviously, I didn’t go outside to check, but I couldn’t see anyone even from the side windows. So I shrugged it off as a dream or a figment of my imagination and decided to sleep. Although, I was slightly more alert this time.

I was about to drift into sleep again when I heard the thud. This time, I was sure that I wasn’t imagining things. I actually heard it. I couldn’t find the source of it. It was a metallic thud. And it was a loud one. It was supposed to be coming from somewhere close. But where?

I picked the gun I used to carry for my safety and kept it ready just in case. I used to carry it to not shoot anyone, but to use it to escape from situations. I pulled my window down and peeped outside to get a clearer view. There was no one around. There could have been someone standing on the dark side of the truck stop, but they could have not made the noise from that far. I tried looking at the bottom of my door because that is a blind spot from my window mirror.

Fortunately, there was none. I eyed through the bottom side of the truck with my head outside the window, but I could not spot anyone. I was about to give up when I saw something move. It was a shadow. A shadow of a man. I was parked almost below a streetlight. And it formed a sharp shadow on the sides. A chill ran down my spine as I realized that the man was standing on the top of my carriage. I am not sure when, but this creep had managed to climb on the top of my truck’s carriage. And that even explained the loud thuds. Those were his feet landing on the metal carriage.

I decided to act as calmly as possible. I didn’t want to alert him that I was aware of his presence. I whistled and pulled myself inside the window. I rolled my windows up and ensured that my car is still locked. I started my engine so that he would get a hint that I’m about to get going. Maybe that would suggest he get off the truck. I waited for a minute, but I couldn’t notice anyone get off the roof. I slowly pulled my truck back and started to move toward the gate. Another truck was standing there and the driver was in. I flashed my lights to alert him. I caught his attention, and then I quietly signaled him to see the top of my truck.

He looked confused. Upon looking at my roof, he didn’t react much. He pulled his truck closer to mine and rolled down his windows. A little worried, I whispered to him from my window that there is someone on my roof. He laughed it off. and asked me to not worry much about it. I asked why, to which he responded saying, “Is it your first time here?”

I nodded. But I was still not sure about what made him laugh. Before I could ask for clarification, he said, “We’ve all been in your spot. When I first used this spot to park, even I felt that there is someone on my truck. But no one else could see it. Don’t worry. The spirit has never harmed anybody.”

I didn’t know how to respond or react. I laughed hesitantly and left the place at the earliest. Since then, I made sure that I never stop my truck at truck stops, that aren’t much crowded.
